URUGUAY - BEACH GETAWAY (take 2!)

View of Buenos Aires from the Ferry to Uruguay
After our brief visit to Iguazu we had planned to get away to the beach in Uruguay for a few days. We'd be celebrating my birthday there and also fancied just putting the feet up since we were due to go home a week later. We had also heard the beaches in Uruguay were beautiful and that alot of Buenos Aires locals take long holidays there during their Summer each year (making it quite expensive too!).

Us on the ferry!

After our overnight (15 hour) bus journey back to Buenos Aires, we headed straight to the port where the ferry office was. Again - as has happened us on many occasions - the locals neglected to tell us it was a national bank holiday and half of Buenos Aires was down at the port looking for the same tickets as us. It was like being back in Bolivia - complete chaos!!! Still we managed to get a ticket and 3 hours later we arrived at the port in Uruguay where a bus drove us for 2 hours to Montevideo, and then another rickety (but scenic) 5 hour bus journey to 'Punta Del Diablo' - the beach we were staying at.

In all it took a total of 35 hours of pretty much non stop travelling to get there so we were pretty exhausted to say the least!

Without going into too much detail (but it has to be put out there since this is an ever honest blog!), we weren't too happy when we arrived at midnight to find our double room was a small (not the cleanest) room with a bunk bed and dodgy view, and let's just say it was the first time since they were packed away back home  that we had to take out our 'sleeping bag liners'.

After waking up the next morning with Mossie bites all over my head, face, neck & arms we were moved into a better room (but back into this room on our last night).

Still, we had perfect weather - not too warm, a beautiful beach, and warm Atlantic water to wade in; so we made the absolute most of it and really enjoyed our 2 days chilling out there!

"Salud"...My birthday drink!
