- Excellent seats on the plane from Lima to Cuzco...amazing views...unexpectedly smooth!!
- After 1 hour in Cuzco altitude sickness kicks in for Niall. Not to worry - easily fixed after a pizza, cerveza, altitude sicknes pill and a siesta!
- Great hostel; boho style, spotlessly clean, comfy beds, great staff, right next to main square (despite the steep intense climb up 92 steps!), - SERIOUS view of Cuzco from both our room and the veranda on the roof of the hostel (Piccolo Locanda)
- Tapas bar, stumbled upon by accident, in a cute courtyard while looking for Jack´s bar! http://www.cicciolinacuzco.com/
- Discovering Cuzco´s beauty at night when leaving the restaurant, as each surrounding overhanging hillside is filled with dotted lights like stars - magic!
- "Siesta" that accidentally lasted for 14 hours instead of the usual 1 hour...badly needed...pure bliss!!
- Taxi to quieter side of town. Niall won´t allow the word ghetto, but let´s just say we were the only non locals around! Wait in the so called "bus station" (a run down old yard with a couple of mini buses), and pay a mere 5 soles (about 1 euro) each for an hours bus journey´up windy mountain sides and into another town of the Sacred Valley; Pisac
- Taxi up to the ruins with our new friends from Austria, Nicole & Titac. After a half hour wandering around the ruins we head back on the 2 and a half hour trek around the mountain - well worth it.
.
- Beautiful lunch in Pisac; wander around a quaint quiet market; purchase the ceramic Peruvian symbol of protection for your house that we have seen all over Cuzco on rooftops; head back to the station where we wait for our bus with about 30-40 other locals! We board what can only be described as a 1980´s Irish School bus and wait a few minutes until it packs up. We enjoy the sight, as we had imagined it, sardines in a bus that smells of cooked chicken/ fumes/ llama wool!!
- Tired, bed, 5am start next morning... train to Aguas Calientes
Were you thinking of me and James when you took that picture? (Mugs!)
